Crazy Cress Heads and Wonderful Watering Cans!

As usual, Class 2 spent half of their Forest School day with Mrs Le Beau (check out her wonderful news article to see what we got up to there!) and the other half exploring the world around us and expressing our creativity with Miss Walsh!

We started thinking about the seasonal changes we are seeing around us- the sun is shining and flowers are beginning to bloom. Children rightly identified that we are going into Spring, and that this is the time of year plants begin to grow. We decided to grow our own! We first considered what plants need: space to grow, water, soil (for nutrients) and sunlight. To give our plants space to grow, we needed fibre pots to plant them in. We decorated these with fun and colourful faces, so that when our plants grew, it would look like hair for our crazy cress heads! We filled them with soil, so it could get nutrients, and planted our seeds.

Next, we considered what else plants needed to grow. We know that water bottles are no good for plants- but watering cans are! We created our very own watering can artwork, with rainbow finger-painted water drops, 3D cans and beautiful flowers to help bloom!

Finally, we took our creations home to help give them sunlight and nurture them to grow!

However, plants are not the only new life that Spring brings! We took some time to consider the new life of creatures around us, by taking a look at the frogspawn and growing frogs in our school pond. We were amazed to see them hopping around and found their croaking hilarious!
